1 James St, Mosman has just hit the market.

Former AMP boss Craig Meller and his wife Sue have listed their vast Mosman home of 20 years to downsize.

The unique six-bedroom, six-bathroom residence at 1 James St, Mosman with unparalleled harbour views of North Head and the ocean has a rare 40m of elevated frontage over the treetops.

Beyond the water backdrop, their property’s additional wow factor is its private path through bushland down to the beach.

The sales agent, David Smealie of Pello, says there’s already “incredible inquiry” from buyers keen on the property.

Meller stepped down from the top job in 2018 during the banking Royal Commission among reports AMP had charged customers fees for advice that was never delivered. The ex-CEO was later cleared by ASIC in 2020 for any wrongdoing.

A decade prior to Meller taking on the AMP gig, the couple bought the James St house for $3.66m, making updates throughout the years.

Now the Mosman mansion is listed with Pello agents David Smealie and Stefon Bertram who are yet to set an official price guide.

“We’ve already had incredible inquiry in the few days it’s been on the market,” Mr Smealie said.

“The reaction to this property has been great; the kind of energy we haven’t seen from buyers since last year.”

The two-storey home is on a huge 1451sq m block.

“Not many homes have this outlook.”

A grand two-storey home 1451sq m, that was created to showcase the enviable views, the residence features a vast full-width balcony with retractible roof, as well as multiple outdoor spaces including a level lawn, manicured gardens and a pool for large-scale entertaining.

“The unique thing about this home is its wide view with a block that has an incredible 40m frontage,” Mr Smealie said.

“Not many homes have this rare outlook – and you’ve got sunlight and views from virtually all the rooms.”

Marrying classic styling with contemporary features, the spacious house’s entry level is home to an open plan formal lounge and dining space flowing onto the alfresco area via bifold doors.

There is also a casual everyday zone off the modern kitchen which includes stone bench tops, a Falcon oven, a Miele dishwasher, Vintec wine fridge and an Insinkerator.

For the avid wine connoisseur, there is also a temperature-controlled 722-bottle cellar.

It’s surrounded by a lush natural landscape, with a north-facing position.

There are six bedrooms and six bathrooms,

While there are two bedrooms on the main living level, with one an ideal option as an office, the downstairs houses the bulk of the accommodation with a main suite featuring a large walk-in wardrobe, a private balcony and a deluxe ensuite with twin showers and dual vanities. One more bedroom has an ensuite and the property has a separate guest house-style self-contained studio apartment with ensuite, kitchenette, air-conditioning and wraparound windows framing water views.

Surrounded by the lush natural landscape and with a north-facing position, the 2.9m deep saltwater and gas-heated pool is a resort style feature with Himalayan limestone paving.

“You’ve also got the private easement through to Chinamans Beach which is an amazing inclusion. It’s just three minutes to the water from your own backyard,” Mr Smealie added.

The Mosman property has a long list of contemporary features such as a back-to-base alarm, video intercom, Sonos in-ceiling speakers, bathrooms with underfloor heating and heated towel rails, integrated 18Kw solar tiles, two Tesla Powerwall2 batteries and wall connector charging stations.

There is secure parking for up to six cars.
