Five of Queensland’s best homes on the market this week

When the Lally family bought Units 7 and 9 on 208 Adelaide St, Brisbane City, they turned the two homes into one deluxe living experience.

It’s now an apartment as big as a regular home, featuring a view right over ANZAC Square – and it’s one of Queensland’s five best homes this week.

7/208 Adelaide Street, Brisbane City

Buying the units in the 90s, the couple rented them out before moving in once they retired, opening up the separating wall.

Now with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, their daughter Genevieve said it gave the home a versatility convenient for when the rest of the family would visit.

“What worked well was to create a separate space that became like a study, but also a separate guest accommodation for family to come and stay comfortably,” she said.

The home is in the art-deco style building ‘The Residences’ – made in the CBD in the 1930s.

The two units mean the home has a wide array of living arrangements, from group gatherings to separated accomodation.

The home features windows that directly overlook the park, giving residents a perfect view of the gardens while being right by all the city’s amenities.

“It just meant that we could all enjoy that inner city convenience,” Genevieve said. “It’s effectively the size of a home, but in an apartment form, which meant that for family gatherings, it was very easy for people to come and go.”

Place New Farm agent Alex Rutherford is accepting best offers for the units by September 12.

7 Avocet Court, Wurtulla

7 Avocet Ct, Wurtulla

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom house at 7 Avocet Ct, Wurtulla, is a beach lover’s dream come true.

A little south of the Sunshine Coast is Wurtulla Beach, which is right next to the home after a short walk through greenery.

Maria Cook and her husband Christopher spent 26 years in the property before deciding to sell it, having raised their son in the quiet, family-friendly cul-de-sac.

“The only traffic we get in the street are the people that live in the little court,” she said. “So the children are out on bicycles, they’re out playing.”

The home’s been used to many group events over the past 20 years, with guests only minutes away from a walk on the beach.

The two-storey home features large open spaces to enjoy family gatherings, with a master retreat on the upper floor with its own balcony to overlook the coastal view.

“It’s beautiful to wake up to [the beach], to have your walks,” she said. “And then at night you go to sleep to the sound of the sound of the surf, which is like a lullaby.”

Karen Jones of Adams & Jones Property Specialists is seeking offers for the home from $3.2 million.

147 Lynne Grove Avenue, Corinda

147 Lynne Grove Ave, Corinda

The six-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 147 Lynne Grove Ave is more than 140 years old, renovated for the modern age.

The period house sits on 3,121 sqm of land, and the sprawling property is scattered with unique features both inside and outside its walls.

Many of the home’s original features have been retained, while still keeping up with modern amenities.

Multiple fireplaces are littered around the mansion, which also features a recently updated kitchen. The large kitchen garden is one of the home’s many outside offerings, from the children’s play area to a large pool, complete with its own pool house.

With a dining room, playroom and library, there’s no shortage of space for the person with the means to afford it.

Gabrielle Baker of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty is seeking offers for the property from $5.95 million.

43 Werin Street, Tewantin

43 Werin St, Tewantin

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom house at 43 Werin St, Tewantin, was given the name ‘ICEBERG’: a cool white pillar of a home, north of the Sunshine Coast.

Its contemporary design contains the features of a resort, including a magnesium pool and Swedish sauna out the back, next to furnished hardwood decking and stone floors.

The home is advertised as a resort all of its own, with deluxe features for those who can afford it.

Unlike the exterior, several rooms inside are painted in black; like the indoor gym with new equipment, or the entertainment room with space for 14 people to watch a movie.

A master retreat, separated guest accommodation and amenities like automated climate control and underfloor bathroom heating, make this a deluxe home for expensive tastes.

Expressions of interest are being taken by Catherine Hall of Suter Smith Cleine, Noosa Heads.

On 2000 sqm of land, the two-storey home is surrounded on all sides by trees, just a short walk away from a quiet spot on the Brisbane River.

The home has plenty of space for those who are always seeking a breath of fresh air.

Built to get a view of the landscape, the house is covered in alfresco areas for indoor-outdoor living. The wide interior spaces lead to glass doors that connect with the outside, with a stairway down to a resort-style pool hidden beneath the trees.

With room for guests, large gatherings and plenty of parking spaces, it’s a big home for those who want to relax in nature while still being a short drive away from Brisbane’s CBD.
