A Burnside home, which made national headlines after its selling agent was forced to smash down the front door, has sold at auction for almost $402,000 above its price guide.

The four-bedroom home at 8 Kurralta Drive sold under the hammer for $1.7005m, fetching its owners no less than $858,500 in resell profit.

The home, which last sold in 2019, had been marketed with a price guide of $1.299m, making it an appealing offering for families, according to selling agent Scott Moon of Harris Real Estate.

“It was a good auction. We had four registered bidders and three active,” he said.

“Bidding started at $1.47m, so above the reserve of $1.4m, and then quickly went up to $1.7005m.

“The three families that bid all really wanted it and we actually ran out of paper to take bids down. So it was a really good result.”

The home’s well-kept appearance and location appealed to family buyers.

The home made headlines in early August after around 50 hopeful buyers watched Mr Scott smash down the front door to facilitate an open inspection.

“We had a lock fail in the door and it just wouldn’t open. We tried everything,” Mr Scott said.

“So we called the owner and said `we have 50 people here, wanting to look at it. We can send them on their way or smash down the door’ and they (the owners) gave us the go ahead.

“We had the door replaced by Monday and the house properly secured until then, so it wasn’t a problem.”

While all is well that ends well, one househunter said he was unlikely to forget the incident anytime soon.

“When we arrived at the property a couple of minutes before the open time we could see they were having some trouble getting into the property,” the buyer who wished not to be named said.

“A few minutes later a pretty big crowd had gathered on the front lawn. There was a bit of confusion before we heard from the agent that the key to the front door had broken inside the lock.

“I assumed we would have to go home and come back another day to check out the property. But then the agent decided to bust the front door open. It was pretty funny to watch.

“It only took him a couple of goes, which was pretty impressive.”
