166 Burleigh St, Burleigh Waters has sold for a suburb-record price

A doctor’s designer family home has sold for $4.83m, setting a new record in the popular Gold Coast suburb of Burleigh Waters.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom waterfront property at 166 Burleigh St attracted huge interest from both local and interstate buyers, with the keys ultimately going to an executive of Gilmour Space Technologies, the Gold Coast company behind the first Aussie-built orbital rocket.

It was the highest price ever paid for a residential property in the suburb, which is experiencing a wave of gentrification. Original 1970s and 80s houses are being replaced by sprawling luxury builds, with a focus on al fresco living and many with a Palm Springs-inspired style.

Ben Doyle, of One Agency, handled the sale via an expressions of interest campaign. Mr Doyle said the standout price reflected big demand for new homes by the water.

“The desirability of a finished product like this where the quality was so high was very strong,” Mr Doyle said.

“This was a north-facing home with a unique design that was different to everything else on the market.

“We had interest nationwide from people wanting to live in Burleigh, and I think we will continue to see the area go from strength to strength.”

Polished concrete floors and timber finishes

The two-storey house was designed by Jayson Pate with interiors by Langlois Design, for Dr Michael O’Reilly and his wife, Erin. It was purchased by Ashley Hasforth and Bree Daniel, property records show.

The home’s striking façade combines stonework and timber panelling, setting the tone for a “contemporary yet soulful family home”. Highlights include polished concrete floors, a guest retreat, central grass courtyard, and a 6m void with custom David Trubridge pendant lighting.

On the ground floor, a fireplace and feature stone wall enhance open-plan living areas and a sleek kitchen with two ovens and a butler’s pantry.

These spaces flow to a covered entertaining terrace with outdoor kitchen and a heated pool overlooking the water.

“A welcome shift from the white-on-white trend and filled with an abundance of natural light, the property’s warm, earthy finishes evoke a true sense of calm,” Mr Doyle’s listing stated.

The sale eclipsed the previous suburb record of $4.765m, set in March for a luxury new build on Honeyeater Dr, where the vendors are currently working on their next project right next door.

But the record may not stay with 166 Burleigh St for long, with another newly completed property designed by Jayson Pate listed with an asking price of $5.295m-plus.

Named The Wave, this bespoke four-bedroom home on a 607 sqm non-waterfront lot is owned and marketed by Lacey West agent, Charles Thackwell.

PropTrack data shows house prices in Burleigh Waters were up 3.2 per cent to a median of $1.547m.
