A Richmond home that Tigers veteran Dion Prestia transformed from being at risk “it might catastophically collapse” to a striking modern residence has sold for $2.3m.
Prestia spent six years playing for the AFL’s Gold Coast Suns alongside Garry Ablett Jr and rose to the rank of vice-captain before signing with the Richmond Football Club in 2017.

The move helped the Tigers get over the hump and break their premiership drought in 2017 when they defeated the Adelaide Crows.
Prestia has since won a further two flags with the club, as well as the Jack Dyer medal for the club’s best and fairest in 2019.
Nicknamed the Human Meatball, he has now played in more than 220 AFL matches and remains a stalwart for Richmond’s midfield.
Records show Prestia paid $1.348m for the home in 2018, before putting in a $700,000 application to renovate.
In 2020 the Herald Sun reported the footballer and his partner Lainey McIntyre had sought to demolish the building and rebuild the facade with its original materials, but with a modern home behind it.
This followed an Urbis report that found it had “poor structural integrity” and noting “it is conceivable that the building is approaching the point where it may catastrophically collapse”.
The home has since been massively transformed, with super modern interiors, extensive efforts to maximise natural light.
They’ve also added a pool and deck to a series of low-maintenance outdoor spaces.
But there is a twist some die-hard Tigers’ fans may be disappointed me — the home’s decor is decidedly more blue and white than it is yellow and black.
White stone bench tops are offset by bold blue cabinetry in both the kitchen and the bathroom.
Though there is a hint of Tigerland, with urban brass tapware and dark, black-coloured soap and lotion bottles used when styling the latter spaces.
Jellis Craig’s Elliot Gill sold the home on July 31 after about 55 days on the market.
Mr Gill was overseas on leave and unable to comment, but the home was marketed as an “entertainer’s sanctuary”.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom floorplan includes an open-plan living zone at the rear that looks out to a pool and a deck.
It is also set on the former grounds of a racecourse run by colourful Melbourne identity and bookmaker John Wren, which was redeveloped as housing in 1941.
The home’s location was also a winner, within a short walk of the Yarra River and Burnley train station and set between popular shopping and dining precincts along Bridge Rd and Swan St.
