Music star Daniel Johns has earned a massive $2.75m bonus that dates back to his early days with Silverchair.
Johns, 45, has sold his long-time home in sought-after Merewether, Newcastle.
According to property records a 17-year-old Johns bought the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home that sits on Rancloud St, only minutes from the beach, for $360,000 in May 1996 as Silverchair was beginning to take the music world by storm.

The home was sold in July with CoreLogic recording the settlement came through last week.
However Johns might have been disappointed with the eventual sale price of $2.75m, given the house was originally listed for sale at a ‘$3m friendly auction’.
Perhaps the auction was too friendly.
“Brilliantly located a barefoot 250m stroll to Merewether Beach, this four bedroom home radiates appeal,” the listing for the 31 Ranclaud Street property reads.
“With spacious interiors flowing seamlessly from front to back, you’ll find yourself spoiled for choice with multiple living areas to kick back and relax in.”

Johns’ longtime Merewether home has sold for $2.75m.
He’s owned it since 1996 when he was 17 years old.
The home is one of several investment properties Johns bought.
It was last listed for rent for $850 per week in July 2020. Johns also owns two properties nearby, according to property records, one of which is where he lives.
However the listing says the expected rental income for an investor could be $1110-$1210 per week.
According to PropTrack, the median house price in Merewether is $2,05m. That’s up 6.8 per cent over the past 12 months
Johns has been a savvy real estate investor, in 2016, he sold his top floor Bondi Beach apartments for a nice earner.

The home is a short walk from Merewether beach.
It could be a good investment home or knockdown/rebuild.
The home 227 sqm property could also be an ideal site for someone looking to knockdown and rebuild their dream beachside home.
Johns was already a multi-millionaire when he bought Ranclaud address for sale, after Silverchair’s debut album Frogstomp – released in 1995 – sold more than four million copies worldwide and made them the most successful Aussie band since INXS.
But the worldwide acclaim wasn’t easy to handle for the teenagers.
“The first time we heard ‘Tomorrow’ on the radio, it was really embarrassing,” Johns said at the time.

“We were in a car with a whole heap of our friends, and it came on. We turned it off as quick as we could.”
Silverchair has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, with Johns embarking on a successful solo career also.
