Former Tiger and Kangaroo defender Robbie Tarrant and wife Jess are punting their renovated, hi-tech Brunswick West house with a $2.95m-$3.245m asking range.

Drafted by North Melbourne in 2007, Tarrant played 174 games for the team, including 2016 when he was named the club’s best and fairest.

He moved to Richmond in 2021, but announced his retirement due to an ongoing hip injury last year.

He’s also ex-Collingwood star Chris Tarrant’s younger brother.

About four years ago, the Tarrants renovated and extended their five-bedroom home with the aim of retaining its Californian bungalow charm while increasing space.

Jellis Craig director John Morello, who has the listing alongside agency partner Paula Beavis, said the reno had retained original details including plaster, double-hung windows, skirting boards, architraves and fireplaces.

“I think it’s a great example of a period home with an architectural renovation and a very thoughtful extension, that’s been undertaken by award-winning architect and interior designer Adam Kane and the gardens by landscape designer Nathan Burkett,” Mr Morello said.

Landscape architect Nathan Burkett, who includes multiple Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show awards among his achievements, created the gardens.

Situated on a corner block, the double-storey residence features high ceilings, polished concrete floors, engineered oak floors and north-facing windows.

Among the house’s impressive tech assets are a CCTV system with five cameras and a 4TB hard drive, a Wi-Fi-enabled Ring doorbell, hardwired Ethernet connections and a gas fireplace that can be turned on remotely via a phone app.

In addition, the gardens are equipped with a smart Wi-Fi irrigation system that has a flow meter which recognises leaks and can water plants based on upcoming weather forecasts.

The marble-fitted kitchen boasts Fisher & Paykel appliances, including an induction cooktop, dual electric and steam combination ovens, an integrated dishwasher, fridge and freezer, a butler’s pantry, soft-close joinery and an island bench.

Upstairs, there’s a retreat and tiled bathroom with a skylight, frameless glass shower and bath.

The main bedroom’s ensuite has marble tiles and double rain shower heads.

A powder room, laundry, reverse cycle heating and cooling, double glazing and a rainwater tank are among the other highlights.

The dining and family area opens to a private outdoor space.

The house is zoned to Brunswick Secondary College and is close to public transport, parks, schools and Moonee Valley Racecourse.

Mr Morello described Brunswick West as one of Melbourne’s best-kept secrets.

“My view of Brunswick West is it’s an inner north west and inner city secret,” he said.

“It’s still very underrated for where it is and all the wonderful amenities that are within walking distance, being the Melville Rd trams, parklands, cafes and the cosmopolitan lifestyle central Brunswick has to offer, as well as Moonee Ponds – Brunswick West is wedged between both central Brunswick and Moonee Ponds.”

Expressions of interest will close at 3pm on Tuesday, August 6.
