‘Best spot’ in Brisbane to go under the hammer

Kevin Seymour of the Seymour Group has listed a surplus riverfront block his company purchased at auction for a record $9.9 million in 2020

A Brisbane richlister family who smashed the city’s auction record back in 2020 have now listed the same “surplus” property for sale.

Seymour Group founder Kevin Seymour has listed 25 Maxwell St in New Farm with Ray White New Farm agent Matt Lancashire, who sealed the deal on the same property back in 2020.

Back then, Seymour’s grandson Ben Seymour blew the competition out of the water with a jawdropping $9.9 million offer on the 1210sq m riverfront block in December 2020.

“I’m continuing the family legacy,” Ben said at the time, while sitting next to his grandfather at the Ray White auction event.

But fast-forward almost four years and the site is set to change hands again.

It will go under the hammer at the Calile Hotel on November 30 if not sold prior.

“Residing in a prestigious New Farm pocket harnessing uninterrupted panoramas over the Brisbane River, Story Bridge, CBD skyline and Kangaroo Point peninsular, this commanding estate offers unlimited options to redevelop across one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring backdrops in Brisbane,” the listing says.

“One of only 24 residences in New Farm with pontoon access, the property’s esteemed riverfront position presents a lifestyle of unimaginable exclusivity and a location beyond compare.”

The property consists of two dwellings with an existing development approval to demolish both.

It is just 250m to Riverwalk, 650m to the CityCat, 750m to Merthyr Village and 1km to New Farm Park.

Kevin Seymour said he had initially planned to build a trophy home on the block.

“It is probably one of the best spots in Brisbane,” he said.

“But there is no development for me there now.”

Since setting the Brisbane auction record back in 2020, sales under the hammer have seen that benchmark toppled many times over.

The current Queensland record is held by a Gold Coast trophy home which sold under the hammer for $24.8 million last year.

Mr Lancashire said there was up to 10 buyers currently eyeing off the Maxwell St property.

“There are a few doing their due diligence now,” he said.

“A lot of land bankers and people looking for a trophy home site.”

The Seymour Group are behind some of Queensland’s top tier residential developments including The Oxlade at New Farm and current project, The Peninsula, also on Oxlade Drive.
