3 Musgrave St, Mosman features a Chinese-style timber boatshed, one of only two in Sydney.

Honoured aviation pioneer Steve Padgett is hoping his Mosman harbourfront estate with rare boatshed will take off this year having failed to sell during Covid.

Curraghbeena House on Musgrave St is a 1905 home on the tip of Curraghbeena Point with terraced gardens and stairs down to a sandstone harbour pool.

On the water is a Chinese-style timber boatshed, one of only two in Sydney, which is heritage listed.

The house, despite being pre-Federation, is not heritage listed.

It is just around the corner from former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce’s renovated waterfront property which sold for $21m last July.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom property came to market in 2020 with $7m-plus hopes and is back now with a $10.5m auction guide.

Dino Gatti, of The Agency, said the house at 3 Musgrave St has a versatile tri-level layout with a self-contained apartment and its strata registration would allow for reconfiguration into three luxury residences.

But it could also suit a multi-generational family or buyers who live in one level and rent out the others.

There are panoramic unobstructed harbour views from every room, two levels of living space with large decks, double parking and full security.

Features include blackbutt floors, marble gas fireplaces, high ornate ceilings and designer bathrooms.

Steve was awarded an Order of Australia for his contribution to aviation in Australia and earlier this year he retired as long-time chair of the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame.

He learned to fly at 16, won a RAAF flying scholarship, founded his own flying company, managed a flight academy and is co-founder and non-executive chair of charter operator Alliance Airlines.

Curraghbeena House is set for auction on Saturday September 7.
