They are the streets that titans of industry, the super wealthy and celebrities flock to live in and enjoy and the rest of us simply have to enjoy driving through and gawking.
Australia has some of the priciest real estate in the world and some of the most aspirational: leafy, serpentine parades with glorious mansions hidden behind impossibly tall fences, waterfront paradises with some of the best views in the world, historical estates worth their weight in gold and resort-like compounds that represent the ultimate in indoor and outdoor contemporary lifestyle.
AUSTRALIA’S MOST EXPENSIVE STREETS
1. Wolseley Rd, Point Piper, NSW – median house price: $23,755,000*
Featuring Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House views, large plots and direct waterfront access, Wolseley Rd, Point Piper has long held the title as Australia’s poshest road, appearing to the uber wealthy both here and overseas.
Bordered by the harbour on three sides, its location close to the Sydney CBD also makes it attractive as does Point Piper’s peninsula aspect. It’s not a thoroughfare and those who travel into and out of the point either live there or are having a peek at how the other half lives. Ex-Westfield boss and one of Australia’s richest men Frank Lowy, former NSW premier Nick Grenier and Hungry Jacks owner Jack Cowin are among those who have owned on the street.
Waterfront gem Akuna sold in the street for $60m in November.

3. Linlithgow Rd, Toorak, Victoria – $14,900,000
Melbourne’s premier street in Melbourne’s premier suburb. Aussie cricket legend Ricky Ponting bought on Linlithgow Rd in March last year for $20.75m.
The former Aussie skipper’s new home features wrought-iron staircases, marble-topped kitchen surfaces, and extensive French doors to connect to outdoors, where a luxury pool, statues and manicured greenery feature in gardens designed by industry icon Paul Bangay.

4. Coolong Rd, Vaucluse, NSW – median house price: $14,725,000
Coolong Rd is the address of choice when it comes to super celebrities when they visit Australia and it also boasts what is probably Australia’s most expensive home.
Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Roberts both stayed on the narrow road that stretches from Vaucluse Bay to Nielsen Bay in Lower Vaucluse when they were Down Under. Tech guru and Menulog founder Leon Kamenev’s $200m+ home – which was rated as Sydney’s top home of 2023 – sits on the street.
At the end of the road in a private cul-de-sac it boasts a Great Gatsby-esque estate that was owned by the Grace family of ex-department store chain Grace Bros, which was bought by Myer in 1983.

Olola Ave encircles the near 200 hectares of the estate of heritage-listed Vaucluse House, Australia’s richest ever residential estate that is now a government-owned museum. Olola roams around to almost meet up with both Wentworth Rd and Coolong Rd to form a triangle of some of the priciest real estate on the planet. 26-27 Olola Ave, which fits that bill, is currently for sale for around $55m.
