The best places to live in Australia based on great entertainment, nightlife, food scenes, events and activities have been reveal – as have the worst.
New analysis by Muvall, an online platform that connects people with a nationwide network of removalists, considers 17 factors to identify the most and least entertaining, or “buzzing”, cities to live in.
From restaurants, nightlife and events to culture, outdoor recreation and fitness, the areas have been ranked from fun to boring for Australians looking to make a move.
Sydney’s City and Inner South is considered the best, with an overall “buzzing” score of 71.8 out of 100, setting the national benchmark for lifestyle quality.
It’s the only region to get top score for eating out and also ranked highest for events and festivals.
Sydney featured prominently on the list.
Inner Melbourne and Perth were hot on its heels, with scores of 63.4 and 63.2 respectively, followed by Brisbane’s Inner City (62).
Hume in Victoria takes out fifth place on the national rank, with a score of 59.2, showing lifestyle appeal is not limited to major capital cities.
Adelaide’s Central and Hills region had a score of 56.7, making it sixth on the national list and showing cities don’t need the scale of Sydney and Melbourne to offer a strong buzz.
Meanwhile, Sydney’s Inner South West, Blacktown and South West are the top three least entertaining places to live, followed by Perth’s North West and Adelaide’s North.
The least “buzzing” locations were concentrated mostly in outer suburban areas, where entertainment, dining and nightlife infrastructure were lower than those in the top areas.
Muvall chief executive James Morrell said affordability and location gernerally determined where people chose to live.
Inner Melbourne was the second most “buzzing” place.
However, he said convenience and lifestyle factors were increasingly having a bigger impact.
“Major inner-city areas such as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane continue to rank highly because they offer a diverse mix of entertainment options, such as restaurants, nightlife, events and cultural experiences all within proximity,” Mr Morrell said.
“This makes them particularly attractive for young professionals and people wanting a more active, social lifestyle.
“Simultaneously, regional destinations are becoming more competitive.
“Aussies are being increasingly drawn to locations that combine a balance of entertainment, outdoor recreation and lifestyle appeal without needing to live near a major central business district.”
