Aussie TV stars ride property wave

1 day ago 8

Australia’s favourite TV personalities aren’t just entertaining audiences on screen – they’re also making waves in the property market.

A string of small and big-screen stars have quietly listed, sold or leased their homes in recent months, cashing in on record-high property prices and shifting lifestyles.

Lisa Wilkinson and Peter FitzSimons

Among them is TV heavyweight Lisa Wilkinson and journalist husband Peter FitzSimons, who have listed their home of nearly 30 years up for sale for about $23 million after making the decision to downsize.

Known as Ingleneuk, the house was built in 1903 and purchased by the couple in 1998 when they paid just under $3 million for the five-bedroom house overlooking the Harbour.

The house has a full-sized floodlit tennis court, heated pool and spa, cabana with a wet bar and landscaped grounds.

It has been listed with BlackDiamondz agents Moniku Tu and Jad Khattar.

Edwina Bartholomew and Neil Varcoe

Elsewhere, Edwina Bartholomew and her husband, Neil Varcoe have cashed in on their Woollahra investment apartment.

The couple sold the top-floor Ocean St apartment for $1.57m in April this year, almost 16 years after Bartholomew acquired the property for just $600,000.

The apartment was where she resided for eight years before moving to a three-bedroom 1870s Dulwich Hill terrace that cost the couple $1.59m in 2017.

The couple renovated the Dulwich Hill property before selling in 2023 for a bullish $2.58m.

Sonia Kruger

Meanwhile, Gold Logie award-winning presenter Sonia Kruger and her partner Craig McPherson can only be described as big spenders after paying a whopping $16.1m for a Mosman knockdown at auction earlier this year.

The Balmoral Slopes three-bedroom deceased estate was described as a “once in a lifetime opportunity with spectacular panoramas”, with McPherson reportedly doing the bidding.

The realestate.com.au ad describes the property as a “complete blank canvas”: that’s real estate speak for what the pictures reveal is a falling-down house.

Alex Cullen

On the rental scene, ex-Today Show host Alex Cullen made headlines earlier this year after listing his former Summer Hill home for rent, following his relocation to Melbourne.

The sport presenter’s charming 1912 Queen Anne Federation home, Kironga was advertised with a weekly rent price of $1800 in June but the price was trimmed to $1700 after barely a week on the market.

The four-bedroom, two bathroom home features original charm from its living and entertaining spaces to it’s a rear yard with lemon and avocado trees.

Cullen, and his Nine Entertainment journalist wife Bonnie, paid $1.9m in 2020 when the house on 556sq m was marketed as a ‘highly rewarding refurbishment project’.

Kendall Bora and Matt Doran

Following her move to the US to become Nine’s bureau chief in Los Angeles, Kendall Bora has quietly sold her former Woollahra home.

Bora bought the Fullerton St apartment in 2017, four years before she married then Weekend Sunrise co-presenter Matt Doran.

She paid $675,000 for the 35sq m one-bedroom apartment in Woollahra’s Piccadilly Gardens complex.

The property sold for $795,000 in December last year according to its listing ad, showing a compound annual growth rate of just over 2 per cent.

Bora and Doran also just listed their Berowra Waters weekender with $3m hopes.
The Hawkesbury River riverfront was redesigned by Tamsin Johnson following their $1.75m purchase in 2021 of the four-bedroom home, known as the $1200-a-night Airbnb offering Sunny Corner Cottage.

Megan Barnard

Fox Sports presenter Megan Barnard has also cashed in big time after selling her stylish Bellevue Hill apartment at auction for $1.7m in early 2024.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with garage parking in the Swan development at 303/210 Old South Head Rd had been listed with an auction price guide of $1.6m and was sold through Ray White Double Bay’s Nathan Ryland and Adam Reichman.

Located at the rear of the block, the home was described as free from road noise.

The open-plan living areas faced north so were full of natural light.

The gourmet gas kitchen, with a marble bench and top-tier Miele appliances, extended to an alfresco terrace and a covered outdoor space with leafy views.

Both bedrooms offered outdoor access and built-in wardrobes.

Kyle Sandilands

Radio host, shock jock and television personality Kyle Sandilands latest property purchases with his wife Tegan Kynaston was their home in Sydney’s Vaucluse that they bought for $14m.

The pair snapped up the pad in November 2023, which sits on a more than 1000sq m block and offers views of the harbour, Harbour Bridge and the city.

Another property the radio mogul owns is in Sydney’s Hills, which he purchased in March 2022 for $3m.

The Glenorie acreage has eight bedrooms, a pool with a slide and paddock.

He and his wife’s Mowbray getaway — 11km south of Port Douglas in Queensland — was sold-off for $2.3m in November 2024.

They originally bought it in 2020 for $1.3m, netting a $1m profit in just four years of ownership.

The three-bedroom residence is on a 343sq m block and has polished concrete floors throughout, a courtyard across its two levels.

The Jonsey and Amanda co-host and her husband also have a weekender in Culburra Beach on New South Wales’ south coast that they bought in 2021 for $1.475m.

And their main residence is in Coogee bought by the couple in March 2001 for $900,000, according to property data, which they’ve filed multiple development applications on.
