Ex-Aussie Rules football player Mick Conlan is selling his Brighton home with a spectacular waterfront vista.

Conlan played for the Fitzroy Lions for 210 games from 1977 to 1989, booting a hefty 395 goals, as well as representing Victoria in four State of Origin matches.

In 2012 he became the chief executive of AFL Queensland, but returned to Melbourne after resigning in 2015.

During his career he attracted nicknames of the Sherman Tank and Crash relating to his muscular physique, developed via a significant focus on strength training.

It’s something he has continued at his 1/124 Esplanade, Brighton, home where there’s a home gym at ground level where his training regimen starts with stretching and weights from as early as 3.30am, followed by heading out to the Esplanade for a run — and often joining a friend for a swim in Port Phillip Bay across the road.

A former CEO of the code in Queensland and a Fitzroy Lions player, Conlan is known for his incredible fitness — and his home has helped him maintain it.

The home has a private front garden to enjoy in warm weather.

Ms Conlan has also started swimming the Bay and said with a trip to the newly opened Beach House cafe for a coffee on the way back, it had proven a winning formula for starting the day.

The pair have also put in the hard yards to improve the home, transforming it from its old brick-lined, mission brown look to it’s current, glossy, rendered and brightly appointed polish.

“And Mick does all the gardens and hedges himself — it’s another workout, he says,” Ms Conlan said.

The home’s upper level living zone has been their centre of daily life, with the kitchen, dining area, lounge room and balcony all showcasing spectacular water views.

With the Bay outlook constantly changing, she added that winter was actually one of the best times to take it in — thanks to the heaters on the balcony.

Cooking and washing up dishes is a lot easier with a view like this.

“My favourite part of the home is the balcony,” Ms Conlan said.

“And the view will be what we miss the most.

“Every day the water is a different colour, and it’s good to be able to walk across the road for a swim.

“And it does make it easier doing the dishes when you are looking out from the kitchen to that view.”

While Miele appliances and an expansive island bench help make time in the kitchen pleasant, she added that the addition of a garbage chute that drops directly to the bin downstairs was a major timesaver.

The floorplan includes walk-in wardrobes and ensuites for main bedrooms upstairs and downstairs, a study, the gym which could be a fourth bedroom and outdoor entertaining options on both levels.

Dining at this home, inside or out, comes with a water vista as the backdrop.

The open-plan living zone has plenty of room to spread out in on the upper level.

Ms Conlan added that with everything the need locally within walking distance, including both Middle Brighton and Brighton Beach train stations, the home’s mix of high levels of amenity and low levels of maintenance made for a relaxed lifestyle.

Kay & Burton Brighton’s Matthew Pillios is handling the sale, which he described as prime beachside living — across the road from the Brighton Beach boxes.

“It’s on the water with beautiful views, and that’s the Brighton dream,” Mr Pillios said.

“You can walk to Church St in under 10 minutes, and it’s got a main bedroom with its own private garden downstairs, and another main bedroom upstairs.”

The house could also suit multi-generational living, with the Conlan’s having adult children live with them as they saved a deposit for their own home.

Expressions of interest close at 4pm on June 2.
