Port Adelaide footballing great turned high-profile AFL commentator Kane Cornes has bought a $1.127m Melbourne bolthole as his time in the AFL heartland increases.

Cornes played 300 games with the Power, including in the side’s first ever Premiership match in 2004.

His accolades on the field include winning Port’s John Cahill best and fairest medal four times, and being twice named for the All-Australian Team.

After hanging up the boots Cornes began to make a name for himself as a commentator, writing for The Advertiser, SEN radio and the The Sunday Footy Show.

He also spent six months as a member of the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service.

In 2024 he joined the Seven Network’s AFL commentary team, as well as hosting a variety of other football shows on the channel.

Married to his wife Lucy in 2004, the pair have three children together, with industry sources indicating one of their children might also be expecting to make use of the Melbourne digs.

Ms Cornes is a creative director a She Digital Advertising, which she founded in 2017. She also established the online shopping hub She Shopped in 2012.

But it’s not clear if his family will be spending much time at Cornes’ new digs, with the three-bedroom apartment considerably less accommodating than the family’s existing South Australian home in the seaside suburb of Seacliff.

Documents show his new home away from home was purchased earlier this year under a company referencing his wife’s name and registered to the pair.

The apartment in Melbourne’s leafy eastern suburbs is walking distance to cafes, restaurants, schools and has a tram line virtually on its doorstep.

The home’s modern kitchen has a servery window out to a balcony.

In addition to the bedrooms and a central bathroom, it has two living areas — one with a fireplace, a modern kitchen and a spacious balcony.

It’s also not far from a home he is understood to have formerly rented from ex-Magpie Murray Browne, who recently listed the residence for sale — and sold it ahead of auction this week.
