Adelaide man’s lottery win will make homebuying dream a reality

2 weeks ago 9

An Adelaide man can finally turn his dream of owning a home into a reality after winning $100,000 on the lottery.

The Norwood dad held the first prize winning entry in a Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw.

He is now gearing up for househunting as the surprising win will help him finally enter the property market.

“I’ll be able to buy a house for my family,” the man said after hearing he’d won.

“What a perfect little surprise before Christmas.”

He didn’t realise he’d won until after a busy day of travelling and saw he had several missed calls from lottery officials at The Lott.

An Adelaide man plans to buy his first house with his lotto winnings.

I just got off a flight to Melbourne. I’m going to see my family for Christmas,” he said at the time.

“I can’t wait to share the news with my wife. I don’t think she’s going to believe me!

“I told her I’ve been buying lottery tickets, and she would just laugh at me, but now I think she might scream with excitement.”

Adelaide’s median property value climbed to a record high of $898,000 in November and was expected to eclipse the $900,000 mark within weeks.

It climbed 0.9 per cent in November – the highest monthly rise in the nation – further pushing homes in what was once considered one of the county’s most affordable cities out of reach.

REA Group senior economist Eleanor Creagh said earlier this month that low stock values, particularly the constrained rollout of new housing, had swung the market heavily in sellers’ favour and she didn’t see that changing any time soon.

There were 479 division one winning entries from all lottery games across Australia in the 11 months ending November 30, according to data analysed by The Lott.

“I think this year’s series of interest rate cuts, population inflows, investor activity and the expanded home guarantee scheme will continue to bolster demand along with upgrade activity,” she said.

“Broadly, it looks like further price gains into summer, although the extended pause on interest rates and APRA’s cap on high debt to income lending is probably going to temper momentum into the first half of 2026 so we could see the pace of growth easing off slightly.”

South Australia had 33 division one wins, the most of which were in Adelaide’s northern suburbs – 10 worth a total of $16.5 million.
